100 years of Flight

100 years of Flight - On 17th Dec. 1903 the Wright brothers made the first successful manned flight in a flying Machine. The Aero-Adventure has been going on ever since. Sadly, in Mumbai none of the Airways celebrated the day or the year in a big way. For those who love science as a way of life or philosophy, it was very hurtful. The department of Extra-Mural Studies in collaboration with Institute of Aviation and Aviation Safety decided to mark the day on 17th Dec. 2003 with a special program and organize an exhibition in January 2004

On 17th Dec. 2003 program was organized at Wilson College and Ruparel College to salute the Wright Brothers. The program included a slideshow and lecture about Wright Brothers by Prof. M.H. Apte, a lecture on science of flight by Mr. Madhav Khare, remote controlled flight demonstrations by Mr. Clarence D'souza and Mr. Rakesh Verma

From 5th Jan to 8th Jan. 2004 an exhibition was organized at the Convocation Hall of University of Mumbai, Fort Campus. Charts, Models of aeroplanes, cockpit and aerodrome models, lectures, and Aeromodelling workshops, Filmshows, Presentations by various Flying Clubs were part of the exhibition. Around 2000 people including students visited the exhibition.
