The objective of this course is to create awareness about various aspects of trees that make their presence, a matter of pride of enlightened society. Even as their material utility aspects will be appreciated, their role in society, culture, environment and human interaction with them, will be focused on. Formal information about a tree that is essential for its identification and description will form the beginning, to be followed by other types of information that is available from different formal and non-formal sources. Participants will be encouraged to gather information to enrich the data bank with the faculty and ensure continuously enlarging resource base for successive batches of participants. |
Participants will be taken on field visits to get a feel of selected trees, in the city environs and relevant information will be given on sites which include South Mumbai and University Garden, Slopes of Malabar Hill, Jijamata Udyan, Parsi Colony(5 Gardens), Sagar Upavan.
The course will be conducted by experienced scientists in Botany and Ecology, like Dr. S.B. Chaphekar, Dr.C.S. Lattoo, Dr. Ranjan Desai, Dr. Rajendra Shinde, Dr. V. K. Ugle. For participation no bars for age and qualification. Medium of instruction will be language of communication. |
